Katy Independent School District has announced the 2010 Katy ISD campus Teacher of the Year and this year’s winner at Rylander Elementary School is Elisse Hayes-Karlsson. Mrs. Karlsson is a native Houstonian who graduated from Hampton University in Hampton, Virginia. Mrs. Karlsson has been a dedicated educator teaching for the past five years. Mrs. Karlsson has been a Katy resident for the last four and a half years, living in the community in which she teaches. When asked about her inspiration for going above and beyond as a teacher, Mrs. Karlsson replied, “Some professions are rewarded annually via the use of incentive programs and bonuses. I experience daily, through teaching, what those individuals experience only once a year. The crucial moment when a child’s face or mind goes from confusion, frustration, and lack of confidence to clarity is a moment of joy for me. It is success demonstrated and realized. Each day, I beam like a proud parent as I watch my students achieve success in academic objectives or in matters of character.”
Rylander Elementary is an Exemplary rated school. Since its inception Rylander has always held this Accountability rating. The driving force behind Rylander is a true inherent belief that all children can succeed and a dedicated teacher is the catalyst. To fulfill this belief, Mrs. Simmons, the principal of Rylander, looked for teachers who were knowledgeable about curriculum and instructional strategies as well as understood the development needs of students. Mrs. Simmons understood that for the students of Rylander to be successful, the teachers had to be willing to do whatever it takes to instruct the students to obtain their maximum success. This years Teacher of the Year for Rylander Elementary held such a commitment to this belief that all students can succeed.
The parents of are honored to have such a polished, caring and enthusiastic dedicated educator living and working in our community. As a parent whose daughter was taught by Mrs. Karlsson, I can honestly tell you she is one of the finest teachers our district possesses. She is involved, interested and a teacher whose former students always remember their days in the classroom. She makes lasting impressions on the minds or our young students and I wish to congratulate her on a wonderful year. Congratulations Mrs. Karlsson!
